| dvdisaster 0.66 |
dvdisaster provides a margin of safety against data loss on CD and DVD media caused by aging or scratches.
dvdisaster creates error correction codes to compensate read errors which are not correctable in the CD/DVD drive.
dvdisaster tries to read as much data as possible from defective media. Afterwards unreadable sectors are recovered using the previously created error correction code. The maximum error correction capacity is user-selectable.
If you create the error correction code file in time and keep it at a safe place, you have a good chance of recovering the medium contents from typical read errors and to transfer your complete data onto a new medium.
Latest changes:
- added adaptive read strategy (thanks to Harald Bogeholz for the suggestion; see also the CREDITS file)
- added -- fill-unreadble option for better compatibility with other tools (e.g. h2cdimage from c"t magazine)
- cut down information written to the log window in GUI mode as that could use up significant amounts of memory in worst case scenarios. Use command line mode if you are still interested in these messages.
- fixed code for clean compile with gcc 4.0.1 - added auto-suffix option for automatically adding .img/.ecc to files given without an extension (thanks to Marcus for the suggestion!)
- changed function test prototype in bash based configure from char* to char to work around misdetection of gcc"s builtin gettext() (thanks to Heinz R. for pointing this out)
- fixed crash in About requester when LANG environment was not set (thanks to Andreas for the patch!)
Latest changes:
- Images are checked against the error correction file during the Scan function. Creation of files can be continued after encountering and removing out-out-space conditions on hard disc.
- New error correction method without error correction files: Error correction information can be appended directly to the image. This method is still experimental and currently only available in the command line. Please visit the CVS archive to follow development of the new method (requires some skills in building programs from source).

Program selecting passwords to your object promises to finish sorting of passwords in few days, months, years, millenniums. You have some information about password or only suggest from what words or symbols your password can be composed.
Arusoft Password Recovery Plus can be helpful for you in recovery of password.
This program is very useful addition to program selecting passwords, because use of minimal available information about forgotten password allows multiple reduction of possible passwords for selecting, also reduce selecting time, often making concrete selecting.
Reducing quantity of password possible variants is especially important for objects with low selecting speed (RAR, etc.).
Arusoft Password Recovery Plus allows visually assigning common structure of password on basis of discrete blocks (composed from groups of symbols or words) and their combination. File, generated on the basis of this structure, with list of passwords can be used as dictionary for other programs selecting passwords directly to your object, protected by password.
Each discrete block has following features:
? minimal and maximal length of the block of symbols (it is possible for the block of words to excluding of dictionary words with not approaching length);
? own set of symbols, list of words, dictionary;
? for group of symbols it is possible excluding repetition of the same symbol within one block excluding of such variants as AAA, ABA, CAA, etc.);
? various transformations of letters register are possible for words (for example, you know that there is word LOST in your password, but you don"t remember exactly letters register. In this case program can generate automatically such variants as: LoSt, LOSt, lost, losT, etc.). Also following transformations are possible: the first letter is capital, the rest are lower-case letters, or all letters are capital/lower-case.
Additional reduction of passwords amount for selecting is possible by determination of relation between blocks. For example, you know that password composed from three words , word is on the second position, register of its letters is unknown (OR, or, Or, oR), and what word is the first or last. Program allows to exclude such variants as: LiveORLive, DieOrDie, DieoRDie, etc. For this example Arusoft Password Recovery Plus will generate only 8 possible passwords! But how many passwords you program would check and how much time it would spend for sequential selecting of all variants of 9 letter password?! But if we take more complicated example?!...
